we know
everybody is interested in what the members of suede have been doing
since december. here’s what’ve heard.
alex tells us the following: “you could mention that i'm working with patrick (duff)
on his solo album & with parlophone on a strangelove
retrospective.”
simon says: “i’ll
be working on the suede movie.” now that should be nice! looking
forward to it!
on may 7th brett launched his career as a solo artist in a somewhat massive way by performing for the royal danish wedding in denmark's national stadium with an audience of mere 40,000 people. his emotional and orchestrated set began with a new, clearly wedding-themed song, "love is dead", which was followed by versions of "by the sea", "trash" and "the wild ones". according to brett himself, the copenhagen gig was just an one-off that he did cos he was asked. he doesn't have any immediate plans for any more live shows, that is, not until the album with bernard is released.
additionally, we have learned that a 3-track single by brett and bernard is due out soon and will be released on a well-known indie label (hint: think the libertines' label). beyond that, it seems that brett may be now managed by ex-nudie saul galpern, and it's possible that his solo album may be released on saul's label.
mat and richard, unfortunately, don’t feel like sharing at the moment.
neil's making music again. he performed with pearl at ronnie scott’s in february in london. see press release here: http://www.ronniescotts.co.uk/ronnie_scotts/ronniescotts/146/sundays.htm
as for the good people around suede...
charlie charlton is managing other bands, among them an up and coming irish band and people’s revolutionary choir (http://www.theprc.co.uk) – a lot of people remember them from the july 2002 fanclub gig and the astoria gig; the g-a-y band, you know.
peter van der velde is still tour managing, still a legend. pete sissons still works with guitars and in fact provided tech support to brett at his recent gig in copenhagen. kimble garcia still is on the road. whatever that means.
we're sad to say that we haven't heard a peep out of ben lurie but believe that he's planning on going back to australia, at least temporarily.
between occasional gigs with his band the boyfriends, david barnett is enjoying his new found status as an unemployed loafer, though he would like to stress that he is open to offers of work. the boyfriends are scheduled to appear at suedefest in helsinki in july.
